The sixth annual AngelFest will be Friday, Sept. 23 at the Angel Park and throughout downtown Sewanee. Joseph’s Remodeling Solutions is sponsoring three hours of family fun and children’s activities, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Children’s activities include inflatables donated by Reliable Rental and All Blown Up; animals presented by TWRA permitted wildlife Rehabilitator, Margaret Matens; musical chairs for the dogs and their humans presented by Animal Harbor; cotton candy and shaved ice donated by All Blown Up Party Rental; crafts by Franklin County Library; face painting by Animal Harbor; glow bracelets and temporary tattoos by Joseph’s Remodeling Solutions; make your own marshmallow poppers donated by Builder’s Supply; corn hole by Otey Parish Church; Sewanee Chemistry Club science activity; and ladder toss, bubbles and sidewalk chalk. The children’s events will end at 7 p.m.
Act of Congress, an acoustic musical group from Birmingham will take the stage at 7:30 p.m.; bring a chair or a blanket. There will be food and drink for purchase from local businesses.

Movie Night in Angel Park
The Sewanee Business Alliance (SBA), Sewanee Union Theater and the University of the South are co-sponsoring “Movie Night in Angel Park” on Saturday, July 23, starting at 9 p.m. The movie shown will be “Big Fish.”
The movie will be projected on a 40-foot screen and professionally run by the drive-in movie company, Preferred Entertainment. In case of rain, the movie will be shown at the SUT.
“Big Fish” (2003, rated PG-13, 2hrs. 15 min.) is a comedy-drama directed by Tim Burton with an all-star cast including Ewan McGregor, Jessica Lange, Billy Crudup, Albert Finney and Helena Bonham Carter.
This event is free and open to the public. University Avenue will be closed 8–11:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available for purchase from area restaurants. Please bring your own chairs or blankets, enjoy downtown Sewanee at night and enjoy the show.

Free Music at ‘Friday Nights in the Park’
Friday Nights in the Park continues this week with the Men of Soul performing.
The members of the band have been playing together for more than 20 years. From Atlanta, Ga., Men of Soul is fronted by Robbie Leggette, who’s soulful voice and high energy make the group a favorite at festivals and events all across the Southeast. The band’s blend of vintage R&B, Motown, blues and classic rock will keep everyone moving the entire night.
Sewanee native Towson Engsberg is on drums. He has also played with Tommy Crain of Charlie Daniels fame, as well as Jimmy Hall, Johnny Neel, Tommy Talton and Bonnie Bramlett.
Band members also include Mike Futral on guitar, Marshall Lynch on bass and Bob Jones on keyboards.
University Avenue will be closed at 6 p.m. for the annual outdoor family event, with food and drink from local vendors available for purchase. The entertainers play from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the Angel Park Pavilion. This event is free and open to the public. A reverse raffle prize give away is drawn at 8:30 p.m. Ticket holders must be present to win.

Bonnie Bishop to Perform at Angel Park
At 7:30 p.m., today (Friday), June 10, at Angel Park, Thirty Tigers recording artist and Grammy-winning songwriter Bonnie Bishop will perform. A veteran touring musician with five records behind her, Bishop has seen her songs covered by Bonnie Raitt and performed on the TV show Nashville. Her sixth album, “Ain’t Who I Was,” appeared on May 27 to remarkable acclaim, including strong reviews from the New York Times, Rolling Stone and American Songwriter. The Texas native’s roots are in Country music, but the current record—produced by Dave Cobb, fresh from albums with Chris Stapleton, Sturgill Simpson and Jason Isbell—moves toward R&B and draws persistent comparisons to Dusty Springfield’s Dusty in Memphis. The Sewanee show, interrupting a very busy tour, will be a homecoming for Bishop, who is a creative writing student in the Sewanee School of Letters. The School of Letters is sponsoring the event, which is free and open to all.

SBA Reverse Raffle
The Sewanee Business Alliance (SBA) is sponsoring a reverse raffle to benefit Angel Park and Housing Sewanee Inc. with a chance for participants to win up to $10,000.
Tickets are $100 each, and no more than 500 tickets will be sold. Tickets are for sale at the following local businesses: Locals, Mooney’s, Regions Bank, Sewanee Auto, Taylor’s and University Realty. Tickets may also be purchased online at <www.sewaneeangelpark.com>.
During each Friday Nights in the Park event, there will be a drawing for a special prize. The ticket drawn will be placed back in the pool for another chance to win. On the last night, July 8, the $10,000 grand prize drawing will be held. Participants do not have to be present to win.
